2010 New Jersey State Masters Criterium Championship Results

NJBA MAXXIS Garden State Cup

August 15th, 2010 -- Cadwalader Park, East Trenton, NJ

Age 55+ Category - 40 minute race

The day started off with the 55+ Category. Curt Hurst and Pat Kennedy had their team tactics at the ready and, as usual, executed them to perfection. They attacked several times throughout the race to soften up the competition, and with about 5 laps to go, Curt and Pat attacked again with a Team Colavita rider in tow. Pat attacked, was reeled back in and Curt countered with what would be the winning move. He finished about 45 seconds up for the win, Pat left the Colavita rider to come in solo for second.

Age 35+ Category - 60 minute race

Another aggressive race with a lot of attacks but nothing stuck until about 8 laps to go. Mark Light of Liberty Cycle went up the road with a Pro Pedals rider and the move stuck. Mark is one of the craftiest and fastest riders in the region and, as he has done many times in his career, he made the win look perfectly routine. This State Championship was his 4th win of 2010! Steve Ward and Dave Walker finished 9th and 10th for the squad as well.

Age 45+Category - 45 minute race

The 45+ race was FAST. A strong field with a challenging course at Cadwalader Park in Trenton, favored a strong team, enter Liberty Cycle. The pre race plan was to attack in twos and we did just that, the Blue and White always up the road. With about 12 laps to go, after an attempted breakaway that lasted for about a lap and a half with many of the favorites taking part was neutralized, the winning move went. With a lot of the big guns taking a breather, Greg Cordasco and another rider timed it to perfection and in less than a lap, had 20 seconds. With his teammates covering all pursuers trying to bring the move back or get across to the move, the duo quickly had 40 seconds and it was up to Cordasco to measure his efforts to leave enough for the sprint. Cordasco got the win with Scott Steward taking the field sprint for the Bronze.
