The Liberty Cycle Juniors, competing under the moniker of Team NJ, had an incredible weekend of racing at the Can-Am Junior Challenge in Sussex the weekend before Memorial Day. The team won the general classification with 178 point, 19 ahead of the second placed team Vortex.
The weekend's events included criterium, circuit, and time trial events, with points gained by top finishers going toward the individual and team overall GC titles. In the Men 10-12 Criterium, Trevor Kahl took fourth, with Matt Sonntag fifth, Ryan Towner seventh, and Ryan Donahue 12th. In the Women 10-12 Criterium, Nicole DiGiacinto of Team NJ took first. In the Men 15-16 event, Steven Chiselko placed fourth, and in the Women 15-16, Nina Santiago placed first. In the Men 17-18 Crit, Eric Schildge placed 13th, and David Costa - originally from Cranford Bike Team/CTS, but competing over the weekend for Team NJ - won the Men Super J.
In the time trial, Ryan Towner and Trevor Kahl took fifth and sixth for the Men 10-12, and Nina Santiago took second for the Women 15-16.
The Men 10-12 Circuit race saw Trevor Kahl, Ryan Towner and Matt Sonntag place fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, while Nicole DiGiacinto claimed the top spot on the Women's side. Andy Gallagher took ninth in the Men 13-14, and Steven Chiselko out-kicked all comers to win the Men 15-16 race. Nina Santiago again took the top spot in the Women 15-16 Circuit race.
